Tips To Not Get Hydrated While Riding

Riders may be exposed to extreme weather in many parts of the world. Specially in Australia, where the heat can take a toll on bike experience. This in turn can get them in line with the effects of dehydration, which is severe and life threatening. Constant exposure to sun ca

n cause dehydration, although many riders may deny the fact that riding a bike will ever take more energy. Moreover, dehydration can bring headaches, heat stroke, weakness of muscles, loss in ability to think and focus on the road, as well as nausea and loss of fatigues. As these symptoms becomes evident, it is easily thought that a rider is suffering from dehydration nd needs immediate attention. But what if you are driving alone?. The following steps can help ensure you are hydrated enough to enjoy the long rides you thought of.

  1. Try not drinking a lot of alcohol in night or in the morning before you ride. Due to the diuretic effects it has, you may need to urinate water and become less likely to hold water in your body. However, drinking more water may not fix the issue. So try not drinking alcoholic at all.

  2. Try drinking water as much as you can when you wake up and until you start riding. Drinking excess water can make bloating and cramps in your stomach.

  3. Leather is the best protection, but in summers, they work as microclimatic and can increase heat in body. In his way you hold less water in your body and get dehydrated. The best option is to ensure proper ventilation is provided for. A flow through jacket can be the best. Also ensure there are vents present in the options you buy in the market, if the jacket is drying the sweat, be aware of the fact that you still may need to drink water.

  4. Do not take off your jackets in heat. As the sweat evaporates, you might feel cooler, but in general, you would need more water as the process of evaporation takes over. This may add more to the effects of dehydration you might be already facing.

  5. While you ride, have a Camelback along, so that you have water while you ride. Although many riders also use cup holders to sip water, it may be unsafe at times. Many may say against Camelback due to the increase in water temperature, but then temperature does not affect dehydration, low levels of water does.

  6. As you drink more fluid, you may need to stop more often as well.

  7. If you wish to have a coffee, try not having those sweetened lattes and mochas. High level of caffeine also adds to the same effects as alcohol.

  8. Do not drink donuts, cakes, sweets and other heavy stuff, which may affect your ability to respond to long distances. Sugar can also dehydrate you as it sucks away any water you may have. Sugar also helps you kidney produce more urine, which may result in loss of water.

  9. Check the color of your urine, dark color means you are dehydrated.

  10. Try to have some salt along, as you may lose sodium as you sweat. Having some salt may help counter blood pressure too.

  11. The eleventh tip is for winters and does not relates to the summers. In winters you also sweat and lose body fluids, so try stay hydrated and not get fooled by the cool breeze around.
